Nominee Holder to Face Critics on Hill


WASHINGTON -- Republicans say they will challenge Eric Holder over Clinton-era pardons, national-security law and his work as a corporate lawyer, but those questions at his confirmation hearings this week aren't likely to derail President-elect Barack Obama's nominee for attorney general.

Mr. Holder, 57 years old, is set to appear Thursday before the Senate Judiciary Committee, where Democrats have rallied to praise his record. The nominee was a prosecutor in the Justice Department's public-corruption unit, a judge appointed by President Ronald Reagan and the No. 2 Justice official under President Bill Clinton.
